Compost bins, I have several plastic compost bins, is it a good idea to leave the lids?

It's not really necessary. Well mixed compost should have adequate moisture from the "green" stuff involved (fresh grass clippings, kitchen waste, etc.). If your compost really needs extra moisture, a brief sprinkle with the hose should do the trick.
The difficulty with leaving compost uncovered is that, if it gets TOO wet, it will just turn into a pile of wet yucky stuff and stop composting properly.... and then you have to tear the pile apart, spread it out, let it dry, and start over. Better to have it a bit on the dry side and just sprinkle it once in a while.
